Community Food Garden Activism!
Bayside Glen Eira Greens are excited to welcome our guest speaker for April:
Patrick Jones– community food garden activist and poet
8.00 Monday 16th April
Godfrey St Community House, 9 Godfrey St Bentleigh
NB: our regular BGE Greens branch meeting will occur on the same night, starting a bit earlier than usual at 7.00 so that we can have more time with Patrick. All are welcome to both events!
Patrick lives in Daylesford, and he has an inspiring story to tell about a community that wanted a community food garden, saw that there was vacant public land, and set about growing food on this land. How did they do it? How do they work with local Council? Who is involved? What are they growing? How does it all work logistically? What is the community response to the gardens?
For answers to these questions, and more, please join us!
Patrick has an excellent presentation, and hands-on knowledge about what’s happening. This talk is timely, as people in both Bayside and Glen Eira have expressed strong interest in community food gardens, and concern about the lack of these wonderful places in our local communities. Perhaps 2012 could be the year when things start happening in your area?
